Role-Based Permissions is a prerequisite for many of the Q3 2018 SAP SuccessFactors universal updates.

It's been about 10 years since I opened SuccessFactors for the first time to create my 2008 business goals, and later finish my first official performance review. During that time, I also transitioned to my new responsibilities as the SuccessFactors administrator. I contacted other administrators in the area to learn everything about the tool. I also got my access to SuccessFactory (I can share some funny, and unfortunate, stories about SuccessFactory later).

Ten years ago, I was able to easily keep up with all the new enhancementsn and features SuccessFactors offered. Once SAP acquired SuccessFactors, things started to move a little faster, and I moved to the consulting side of SuccessFactors which required me more than ever to stay on top of the latest and greatest. With the speed of technology of innovation today, it should be no surprise that more changes are coming our way.

In Q3 of 2018, all clients will experience a universal push that will upgrade your system to reflect SAP Fiori styling (UI), People Profile (aka Employee Profile), and Fiori Homepage. These changes will bring:

  • Consistent look and feel
  • Prioritized usability and user-centricity
  • Increased user satisfaction
  • Increased solution adoption
  • Adaptive design between devices
  • Accessibility anywhere and anytime

Q3 2018 SAP SuccessFactrs Universal Update

The biggest prerequisite to seamlessly upgrade to the new Home Page and People Profile is role-based permissions (RBP). (Read this blog for more information on RBP).

If RBP is not enabled, users will see a blank home page following the Q3 2018 release. Additionally, People Profile does not support legacy user-based permissions resulting in a blank People Profile page following the Q3 2018 release.

What does this mean for you?

If you are currently utilizing RBP – you’re good to go and will not experience any major hiccups with the automatic update.

If you do NOT currently utilize RBP – you should definitely consider implementing RBP before the Q3 release. There are many moving parts to consider and for some, multiple instances to upgrade. We do not encourage you to wait until the last minute to consider the impact.

Please contact us today to discuss your organization's requirements. We’d be happy to walk you through the steps required to make this upgrade a successful one.
